Cristina Kirchner, Argentina's Vice President, escapes unharmed as man tries but fails to shoot her at close range

Buenos Aires - A man attempted to shoot Argentine Vice President Cristina Kirchner near her home in Buenos Aires on Thursday, a shocking incident that prompted a wave of sympathy from Latin American leaders.

"Cristina remains alive because, for a reason that has not yet been technically confirmed, the gun which contained 5 bullets did not fire despite the trigger having been pulled", Argentina's President Alberto Fernandez said in an address to the nation.

"This is the most serious event that has happened since we restored democracy" in 1983, Fernandez said.

Opinion

I would relate this article to the Sharing the planet and Social organization topics. The incident with Cristina shows us how social relationships are and the conflicts that are created due to them.

The first thing that came to my mind whilst reading the article was the JFK incident back in 1963. It has its similarities, luckily, this time there have been no casualties. But, the main difference and what shocked me the most is the shooting distance. In 1963 the shooter was hidden in a building about 20 meters, this time the gun was just inches away from Cristina. This is obiously a huge difference. How did someone got to see the Vice President with a loaded gun? This is the question that hit me first.

Cristina is accused of defrauding the state an estimated 1$ billion, this may have created her some enemies but I do not think this is an excuse to kill her, she is already facing legal punishments.

This also made me think of how lucky we are sometimes, I do not think so many people can say that a gun was pointed to their faces and survived.
